Almost 6 years ago I got a small 6 week old kitten from a friend of mine who had a feral cat give birth on her porch. This morning, my apartment manager caught me as I was getting out of the shower to give me her bloody collar, Drambuie had been hit by a car. I was told where to find her body and I went to the road to retrieve it. I cannot fully articulate the pain, horror, and heart wrenching, gut aching feelings you get when being forced to carry the corpse of a beloved pet, and seeing the life drained from their face.

I've never cried so hard, my face hurt, my heart heart, my soul hurt. Drammie was easily my favorite pet of all time, and now she is lost. Making matters worse, for those who may not know, I work in a Pet Shop... and I was the only manager able to work today, so I was forced to go in. From eight till about noon, I just sat in the office crying, luckily no one needed me and my employees understood, but the sheer soul crushing feeling from this will linger on for a very long time, if not the rest of my life. She was special to me, like the child I've never had, and having to hold, carry and look into the face of a dead child, I can only presume would feel very much the same....
